Songwriting as Truth-Telling
 A Songwriting Workshop with Matt Meighan

Songwriting is a natural human activity. This workshop will help you express your own truth in song with tools to enhance your creativity and hone your craft. Topics will include:

  • Generating song ideas
  • Developing and finishing songs
  • Overcoming blocks, dry spells and the inner critic
  • Generous listening
  • Muse, Creator, Critic, Editor: getting them to work together
  • Rhyme, alliteration and sound play

Participants will come away with fresh inspiration, song ideas, and tools for starting and finishing songs. All levels of experience welcome.

About Matt Meighan

Matt Meighan lives in Portland, Oregon where he performs regularly, teaches the popular weekly Songwriting as Truth-Telling class and hosts the Songwriter Roundup show at Artichoke Music in Portland. He co-founded and co-hosts the annual Zigzag Mountain Songwriting Camp in Oregon with singer-songwriter Chris Kokesh. Matt studied poetry at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics in Boulder, Colorado, where he earned an MFA in writing and poetics.
